Meet the Cast – Megan Hui

Megan Hui joins us from the mythical frozen land of Vancouver. I’m pretty sure she’s the only one on set who’s not going to complain about how cold it is in San Francisco.

What motivated you to become an actress?

Megan Hui

I originally moved to LA to dance but injured my left knee badly at an audition and had to take three months off to recover. During that time I began taking acting lessons and that’s when I fell in love with acting.

What sort of training do you have?

I have taken several scene study classes as well as studied improv at the UCB Theatre of Improv. Outside of acting I am a trained rhythmic gymnast, dancer, boxer and avid yoga practitioner.

What was your first role?

My first role was for a Samsung commercial where I was hired as a dancing Harajuku girl in a Sailor Moon costume.

What other projects are you particularly proud of?

Megan Hui

I am proud of the first short film that I was cast in, Blake Chandler: Psychic Investigator, starring Jay Hayden and Richard Riehle. The main character, Blake Chandler, was portrayed by Jay Hayden and I played his girlfriend, Iva, in the film.

How do you think that roles prepared you to play Beth in Other Halves?

Playing Iva challenged me to develop a strong relationship with the actor playing Blake. Since we were supposed to be in a relationship with one another, I had to make sure that we had a strong bond that showed throughout the film. I’ll face a similar challenge with Carson, playing Mike.

What drew you to the character of Beth?

I love Beth’s energy and positivity. She sees the good in everyone and always wants her friends to feel great about themselves. She cherishes those that are close to her.

How do you approach portraying a character?

I like to do my character breakdown by seeing what their objectives are in each scene and what is motivating them toward achieving these objectives. I feel that Beth is very relationship driven and that is what I will be focusing on with regard to her character development.

Tell us a little about the other creative projects that you like working on?

While I’m not acting I still love to dance and am a member of the dance crew S.O.D (Students of Dance) which was created by Shotyme (a choreographer from New York whose credits include choreographing Gwen Stefani’s world tour).

How are you feeling about Other Halves, now that you’ve had a table read with the rest of the cast?

I had an amazing time at the table read meeting all the other actors and getting into character with them. It was very interesting to see how everyone has been developing his or her character and being able to interact with each one.

I am extremely excited to begin shooting this movie with the rest of the cast!
